Balearics poet chases €1,881 Madrid poetry prize
Jara López Viñas represents the Balearics on Saturday, 26 September, as seven poets compete for the Premio Nacional de Poesía Viva #LdeLírica in Madrid. The eighth edition starts at 19.30 at El Corte Inglés in Callao, with free entry. The winner takes €1,881, earns publication and will recite at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza on 9 October.
López Viñas competes for zone four, which brings together the Balearics, the Comunidad Valenciana and Murcia. A poet, actor and writer linked to Colectivo Grupoetas, she won Slam Poetry Valencia in 2025. Her work combines popular styles with poetic language to address social issues, rural life and working-class perspectives.
The contest puts written poems on stage through spoken word, performance, music, oral storytelling and other live forms. Organisers call this meeting of text and live interpretation “neojuglaría”. It is organised by Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés and La Piscifactoría Laboratorio de Creación.
The €1,881 prize marks the birth year of Juan Ramón Jiménez. Publisher Huerga & Fierro will publish the winner’s work alongside that of the other finalists. At the 9 October gala, the winner will appear alongside Niño de Elche, Gonzalo Hormigos and María Cielos.
