A grandmother and grandson sit at a café terrace opposite a hospital in Llàgrimes de marbre, the play that wins Menorca’s 2026 Born theatre prize. Its author is Valencian actor and playwright Carles Alberola. The Cercle Artístic de Ciutadella, in Ciutadella, Menorca, announces the result on 24 October.

The judges chose Alberola’s play from 211 entries drawn from 13 Spanish autonomous communities and 14 countries. As Dolors and Joan talk, the conflicts of a family marked by someone’s absence gradually emerge. The judges praise the play’s humour and sharply drawn characters. They also single out Dolors, whose irony helps her connect with Joan and face her fears.

The finalist is En una cambra obscura aquesta nit assenyalada, entered under the name Rumrum. The judges praise the way it moves between past and present without interrupting the action on stage.
