Mallorca breast cancer film reaches EU Parliament
Women with breast cancer take their experiences from Mallorca to the European Parliament in Brussels on 29 September. The documentary Sacar Pecho. De viaje con el miedo puts their accounts at the centre of a screening in the EU institution. The Consell de Mallorca, which helped fund the project, announced the event on Friday.
The film follows a physical and emotional journey through Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana. Its protagonists speak about diagnosis, treatment, fear, personal change and life after cancer.
Producer Virginia Galiano said the project was made so that patients could tell their own stories, without staging or filters. Patient and film protagonist Joana Cladera said it meant sharing the hardest parts of the illness, as well as friendship, hope and the determination to carry on.
The documentary also shows a side of Mallorca beyond familiar images, with the Serra de Tramuntana at its heart. Unesco lists the mountain range as a World Heritage cultural landscape.
The Brussels screening follows the film’s premiere on Mallorca, a presentation at Spain’s Congress of Deputies and its preselection for the 2026 Goya Awards. Alejandro Rodríguez and Rubén Capilla directed the film, with surgeon and project founder Valerio Corazza, doctor Antònia Perelló and psycho-oncologist Mònica Martí also involved.
