Mallorca premieres Cabrera piece at Diada concert
A new work for Cabrera National Park has its first performance in Palma on Friday. The Banda Sinfónica de Baleares played Azael Tormo’s Cabrera at the Pati dels Homes in the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre during Mallorca’s Diada celebrations. A large audience attended, according to the Consell de Mallorca.
A score shaped by Cabrera
The Federation of Music Bands commissioned the piece from Tormo, a conductor and composer. Its music draws on Cabrera’s landscape, silence and natural wealth, while also calling for the protection of the archipelago, part of Mallorca’s natural heritage.
The concert focused entirely on Tormo’s work. The five-piece programme included Fiestas de San Jorge, Bolero per a Lluís, Cabrera, Fire and Flamenco.
12,000 flags at Son Moix
The Diada also reached Estadi Mallorca Son Moix during RCD Mallorca’s Segunda División match against CE Sabadell. The Consell de Mallorca handed out 12,000 Mallorca flags at the stadium entrances, turning the stands into a display of the island’s colours.
Singer Marga Pocoví performed La Balanguera. Mallorca firefighters, dancers from the Mallorca School of Music and Dance, and groups of dimonis and xeremiers took to the pitch. The Consell de Mallorca Emergency Service helicopter sa Milana flew over the stadium carrying a large Mallorca flag.
