Mallorca: Concierto de Aranjuez in Palma and Manacor

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca gets two performances of Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez: the Balearic Symphony Orchestra plays at the Auditórium in Palma on Thursday at 20.00, then at the Auditorio de Manacor on Friday at 19.30. Guitarist José María Gallardo del Rey joins the orchestra, with Gianna Fratta conducting. The Palma performance is the second concert of its subscription season.

First performed in 1940, Rodrigo’s concerto is especially known for its second movement, the Adagio. Gallardo del Rey will also play his own composition, Diamantes para Aranjuez. The programme includes Maurice Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso and Isaac Albéniz’s Suite española.

Tickets are on sale through the orchestra’s website and at the Auditórium box office in Palma.
