In Palma, Mallorca, nearly 50 people tour the des Caragol windmill in Pla de Sant Jordi: two guided visits last Saturday show them the mill and its restoration work. The Mallorca Island Council reported the visits on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, as part of the European Heritage Days.

Built in the early decades of the last century to draw water, the windmill has a round base and tower. Years without maintenance left vegetation growing around it, while dry-stone walls and water channels deteriorated. Its machinery had been dismantled years earlier after a windstorm damaged it.

The island council began restoration in January. Workers cleared vegetation, repaired the walls and restored the channels and a water basin. The work also covers a small building over the well entrance and part of a waterwheel. Specialists restored the machinery in the council’s historic industrial heritage workshop.

The European Heritage Days are a Council of Europe initiative involving more than 50 countries. Guided visits and other activities aim to bring cultural heritage closer to the public.
