Mallorca opens Plessi’s final Digital Splash work
Fabrizio Plessi’s final project is now on show at the Museu de Mallorca in Palma. Digital Splash opened on 16 September and runs until 25 October, bringing together a large video installation made for the museum and 11 drawings by the Italian artist, who died last August.
The installation combines moving images and technology in a space that continually changes. Using digital tools and artificial intelligence, Plessi explores the link between nature and technology while playing with how the viewer sees the work.
The opening was marked by remembrance of Plessi, the Consell de Mallorca said. Philosopher and art critic Fernando Castro Flórez looked back on the artist’s career and considered the meaning of the final work.
The exhibition was initiated by the Consell de Mallorca and Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma. It forms part of the Biennal B programme, as well as the Diada de Mallorca and Nit de l’Art events.
Consell president Llorenç Galmés said bringing Digital Splash to the Museu de Mallorca paid tribute to Plessi while helping bring major contemporary artists to Mallorca. He said the work speaks to both the present and the future, while connecting with the artist’s distinctive career.
