Mallorca film festival brings Oscar winner to Calvià

The 15th Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival brings Oscar winner Edward Berger to Calvià, Mallorca, from 28 October to 4 November. German actor Iris Berben and director of photography Matthew Libatique will also attend and receive awards during the festival. Spanish actor and producer Marc Clotet will chair the jury.

Berger will collect the Evolution Vision Award for storytelling excellence. The Austrian director and producer won international attention with All Quiet on the Western Front, which took four Oscars including Best International Feature Film, before directing Conclave.

Berben will receive the Evolution Icon Award for her long acting career. Libatique, who has had several Oscar nominations, will be given the Cinematography Icon Award for artistic and technical achievement in film.

Drive-in screenings and island films

Before the festival opens, the Port Adriano car park in Mallorca will become an open-air drive-in cinema on 23 and 24 October. There will be two screenings on each night, at 19.30 and 21.30.

On 30 October, the festival and Calvià Town Hall will mark the 20th anniversary of the Association of Filmmakers of the Balearic Islands at the Meliá Calvià South Beach Hotel in Magaluf, Mallorca. On the closing day, 4 November, filmmakers and industry professionals will visit filming locations in the municipality on the Mallorca Go! Location Island Tour.

The festival's Made in Baleares selection contains 32 projects connected to the islands, including feature films, shorts and documentaries made, produced or filmed in the Balearics.
