Mallorca film festival draws more than 10,000 people
More than 10,000 people attend Mallorca’s Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival: its 15th edition closes with an awards ceremony at the Teatre Municipal de Palma in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday afternoon. Organisers say attendees came from more than 23 countries, alongside nearly 400 filmmakers from around the world. The final screening is María Martínez Bayona’s ‘The End of It’.
The films that won
After eight days of screenings and industry meetings, the jury names ‘INK’, produced by Danny Boyle, best international film. Pawel Pawlikowski wins the directing award for ‘FATHERLAND’, while Jordan Firstman’s ‘CLUB KID’ takes the prize for best first film.
‘GAMBERRA’, by Marine Auclair March, wins two Balearic short-film awards: best short and best cinematography, the latter for Simón García’s work.
Film professionals meet in Magaluf
The festival also brings local and international film professionals together. Its ‘Cinematography Focus’ programme includes talks and workshops on camera work, as well as meetings about co-production and film distribution.
In Magaluf, Calvià, Mallorca, around 200 professionals gather to mark the 20th anniversary of the Balearic Filmmakers’ Association. A tour of filming locations in Calvià aims to show international filmmakers and producers what the municipality offers. The festival has also joined Apropa Cultura this year as part of its effort to become more accessible to different audiences.
