Mallorca film makers get shot at €900,000 funding
Professional filmmakers in Mallorca and across the Balearic Islands can apply for a share of €900,000 in new film funding. The Balearic Islands Institute of Cultural Industries opened the scheme on Thursday for professional audiovisual productions and co-productions. The money will be spread across 2026, 2027 and 2028.
The largest share, €500,000, is earmarked for 2026. A further €200,000 will follow in each of 2027 and 2028. The institute, which comes under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, says the scheme is intended to strengthen the islands’ film and audiovisual industry and back projects that can reach audiences in Spain and abroad.
Four pots for films, documentaries and series
Fiction and animated feature films have €350,000 available, with a ceiling of €175,000 for each project. Television documentary features share €250,000, with grants capped at €80,000 per production.
Short fiction, animation and documentary films can draw on €100,000, with up to €25,000 each. Miniseries and web series split €200,000, with a maximum of €100,000 per project.
Local shoots and teams carry weight
Applications will score points for the proportion of shooting days spent in the Balearic Islands, as well as for creative and technical staff who live in or were born on the islands. Hiring local actors also counts.
Projects using Catalan in their original version and those applying gender-equality criteria in key production roles will also be assessed favourably. Fiction and animated feature films, along with series, must submit a sustainability plan setting out measures to reduce their carbon footprint.
Applicants have 15 working days from the day after the decision appears in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands. Applications must be filed online through the electronic portal.
