Mallorca film music night brings Garci to Palma

Harry Potter, Titanic and West Side Story will be heard at the Teatre Principal de Palma on 24 September when the Balearic Symphony Orchestra stages its Música de Cine film music concert. It starts at 20.00. José Luis Garci, the first Spaniard to win an Oscar, and diplomat Inocencio Arias will narrate stories linked to some of the films.

The programme opens with Bernard Herrmann’s overture for North by Northwest. Music by John Williams follows, including a Harry Potter suite and Schindler’s List.

The orchestra will also play the overture from Frederick Loewe’s My Fair Lady, a symphonic selection from Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Miss Saigon, Nacio Herb Brown’s Singin’ in the Rain and a selection from Richard Rodgers’ The Sound of Music.

James Horner’s Titanic suite and Ennio Morricone’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly are also on the bill. Leonard Bernstein’s Mambo from West Side Story closes the concert.

Tickets are already on sale through the Balearic Symphony Orchestra website and at the Teatre Principal box office, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports.
