Mallorca, Spain: director Carles Bover’s Gaza film is one of 15 shorts in the running for a Goya nomination on 28 October 2026. El ressò de la mirada draws on footage filmed in Gaza more than a decade ago. The 41st Goya awards take place on 6 February in Pamplona, Spain.

Bover and Julio Pérez del Campo shot the footage for Gaza, which won the Goya for best documentary short in 2019. For his new film, Bover returns to images left out of that short, including people looking straight into the camera. He asks what it means to film suffering and whether repeated exposure to painful images can make viewers turn away from the reality they show.

El ressò de la mirada has screened at more than 60 festivals worldwide. Sixteen festivals that qualify films for the Goya awards selected it for their official programmes. Writing on social media, Bover said the recognition mattered above all because it kept attention on Gaza. He urged people not to stop talking about it.
