Ibiza heritage nights: thousands flock to free events

Thousands have filled heritage venues in 14 Spanish cities during the first weekend of Las Noches del Patrimonio, the Heritage Nights programme. Ibiza is one of the 15 UNESCO World Heritage Cities in the group behind it. San Cristóbal de La Laguna takes over on 18 and 19 September, bringing every city in the network into this year’s edition.

Free events in historic settings

The programme has put guided visits, concerts, contemporary dance, theatre and workshops into heritage spaces after dark. All the activities have been free.

Escena Patrimonio, the dance festival within the programme, has staged 31 performances, including nine world premieres, as well as workshops and meetings with audiences. Paradores has also joined in with music, guided tours, tastings and special-menu dinners at its properties in the World Heritage Cities.

La Laguna closes the programme

This is the first time the Heritage Nights have run across two evenings. Rubén Viñuales, president of the Group of UNESCO World Heritage Cities of Spain, said the extra date had allowed more events and a better spread of the programme.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna hosts its two cultural nights on 18 and 19 September. Its turn completes participation by all 15 Spanish UNESCO World Heritage Cities in the ninth edition.
