Mallorca’s shoemaking history gets a boost: the Museum of Footwear and Industry in Inca, Mallorca, now has official museum status. Inca Town Council announced the decision on 26 October 2026. The Mallorca Island Council granted the recognition for the museum’s work preserving, researching and sharing cultural heritage.

The museum opened in 2010 as the Museum of Footwear and Leather. It took its current name in 2018, then renewed its displays and expanded its cultural and educational activities. Inca Town Council says the new status opens up more opportunities to preserve and share the footwear and industrial heritage of the town and the wider Raiguer district.

Machines, tools and other objects tell the story of shoemaking and leather work in the permanent exhibition. The museum also runs temporary exhibitions, workshops and educational activities for different age groups.
