Mallorca comic brings Jaume I to primary pupils

A new Mallorca comic takes primary pupils into the island’s past through pictures and story. The Council of Mallorca unveiled La creació d'un regne in Palma, Mallorca, on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, for pupils in the fifth and sixth years of primary school. Its pages follow King Jaume I, known as the Conqueror, and the period that came after him.

The book gives special attention to Jaume II’s reign, which the council says is key to understanding how Mallorca took shape politically and historically. It uses illustrations and a story-led script to make major events from the island’s past easier for younger readers to follow.

Rafel Bosch, the Council of Mallorca’s councillor for Finance, Innovation and Public Service, said knowing the past helps people understand the present and strengthens their connection with the island’s heritage and identity.

Llorenç Garrit wrote the story script and drew the comic, condensing a large body of history for younger readers. Colourist Pato Conde gave the publication its modern, energetic look.

Historian Dr Miquel J. Deyà checked the characters, events and period setting against historical research. The council says the finished comic will support learning while introducing younger pupils to Mallorca’s historical heritage.
