Palma exhibition puts language and migration in focus
A near-ritual silence settled over La Misericòrdia cultural centre in Palma on Tuesday, 8 September, as people entered Nora Ancarola’s new exhibition on language and migration. La ferida de la llengua LA_LANGUE remains open until 15 November.
The artist brings together a video installation, a video work, two objects and an intervention made with tarpaulins and vinyl. The Consell de Mallorca said the work invites the public to confront the symbolic wounds of exile.
Jaume Reus has curated the exhibition after winning the first ACCAIB Curating Prize in 2025. The award gave him the opportunity to present a project at La Misericòrdia.
Culture and Heritage councillor Roca said a curator does more than hang works: the role is to shape the route, the story and the thread connecting each piece. She said the opening comes shortly before the 30th anniversary of Nit de l’Art.
Reus previously curated La gratuidad es una agresión - La joven plástica y la renovación de las artes en Mallorca, 1969-1982 at Casal Solleric. A jury chose it as the Balearics’ best exhibition proposal in 2025.
The prize is jointly organised by ACCAIB, the Consell de Mallorca and the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, with support from Fundació Miró Mallorca and Es Baluard.
