Magaluf literature festival brings nearly 30 creatives
Nearly 30 writers, artists and musicians bring literature, music and art to Magaluf, Mallorca: the town’s literature festival runs from 1 to 4 October. The sixth Festival de Literatura Expandida de Magaluf features local, national and international contributors. Across the municipality of Calvià, library events and literary prizes keep the programme going through the month.
The festival opened at a hotel on Thursday, according to Calvià Town Council. Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual said Magaluf was more than a place for sun and beach holidays. He described support for culture as a strategic choice for the municipality.
Events at Calvià’s libraries
Calvià’s seven municipal libraries have around 20 events planned throughout October for people of all ages. Storytelling sessions, workshops and reading clubs are intended to encourage reading and bring local people into the libraries.
New additions include a crime fiction reading club, a Harry Potter Book Night, a bibliotherapy workshop and a silent reading party.
Literary prizes close the month
The Rei en Jaume awards will be presented at a gala in Sala Palmanova at the end of October. The awards are in their third stage following the return of the novel category and prizes in Spanish and Catalan.
A category for young storytellers also remains. As in the previous edition, it aims to encourage young people to write fiction.
