Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, brings folk songs to Manresa: three acts from the islands take part in the 29th Fira Mediterrània from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 October. Pitxorines, Aina Roca and Mucha Muchacha each take a different route into tradition, the Balearic Islands’ Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport says.

Pitxorines play Sa falda girada at Tasca Cervesa Guineu in Manresa on Friday at 20.00. The group’s second album grew out of research into Mallorca’s folk songs.

Roca presents El temps a través d’un forat at the Casal de les Escodines on Friday and Saturday. A model sits at the centre of the stage work, which explores everyday spaces. The announced times are 17.00 and 21.15, but the department does not say which applies to which day.

On Saturday at 20.00, Mucha Muchacha brings Cantar de gesta to the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya. The performers use movement to turn everyday struggles and human relationships into the subject of the work. The fair, which began in 1998, also brings together folk and world music, theatre, circus and street performance.
