Mallorca book week: four days of stories in Palma
Palma’s Misericòrdia garden hosts four days of books, readings and word games from 24 to 27 September. The 37th Setmana del Llibre en Català, Mallorca’s Catalan-language book week, brings together publishers, writers and readers. Presentations, poetry recitals and conversations are also on the programme.
The Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca, the island’s booksellers’ association, organises the event. The Consell de Mallorca presented the programme on Wednesday and will take part through the Fundació Mallorca Literària with new books, a poetry recital and a Scrabble series.
Children’s tales and a returning book
On 26 September at 17.00, writer Caterina Valriu will introduce children to stories from La rateta i l'avellaner, the latest title in the Bitzoc collection. It is the fourth volume of Rondalles Bitzoc, which adapts Mallorca’s traditional tales for younger readers.
The Consell de Mallorca declared the island’s traditional tales intangible cultural heritage of special interest in May 2026. The book week closes with a new edition of De com era infant, Rafel Ginard’s childhood memoirs.
Joana Serra, who curated the text, publisher Tolo Albertí and representatives of the Col·lectiu Teranyines from Sant Joan will take part in the presentation. The book returns in 2026, 50 years after Ginard’s death, after being out of print for years. The new edition is co-published by the Fundació Mallorca Literària and Saïm Edicions, with illustrations by Toni Galmés.
Blai Bonet tribute and Scrabble
The poetry recital Amb la mar enfront de la mirada, a tribute to Blai Bonet, takes place on 27 September at 13.15. The Fundació Mallorca Literària organises it with the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics.
From 24 to 27 September, the Patio de les Rentadores at the Misericòrdia hosts the four-match Scrabble tournament Paraules que conten històries. Each game links two generations of Mallorca writers through the traditional tales collected by Antoni M. Alcover.
