Palma poetry exhibition puts 16 artists in the frame

Poems take on new forms at the Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca in Palma, where 16 artists have turned verses into paintings, photographs, textile art and sculpture. The eighth Les poesies dels baleàrics exhibition opened on Monday, 14 September, and runs until 23 October.

The show brings together artists from the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community and Ceuta. Each has made a work in response to a poem, placing words alongside images and objects.

From Ciutadella to Palma

Palma is the latest stop for the exhibition after Ciutadella, Dénia, Eivissa, Maó and Ceuta. The route follows cities linked by Baleària sea routes.

The Directorate-General for Culture, Art amb B Association and Fundació Baleària organised the project, with the Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca as a partner. Antoni Torres Martorell and Marina Sanmartín Llopis curate the exhibition.

Mallorca artists take their place

Mallorca contributors are Agnès Burguera, Andreu Planas, Catalina Bauzà Riera, Isabela Lleó and Tomeu Estelrich. Their work draws respectively on texts by Joana Raspall, Gottfried Benn, Silvia Ostertag, Eduardo Chillida and Antoni Vidal Ferrando.

The exhibition is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 09.00 to 14.30, and on Tuesday and Thursday from 09.00 to 19.30.
