Mallorca costume designer Pau Aulí is due to receive the Evolution New Talent Award 2026 on Wednesday: the artist from Esporles says he is entering a new stage of life with more perspective and less fear. He spoke at an Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival event on Tuesday, 3 November, ahead of the closing gala.

From Esporles to the screen

Aulí works across film, theatre and visual art. He has collaborated with directors Agustí Villaronga, Albert Serra and Carlos Marqués-Marcet, and earned three Gaudí Award nominations for Best Costume Design, for El ventre del mar, La abadesa and Polvo serán.

He says starting work in Mallorca taught him to combine theatre, television and styling. Being recognised where his career began means a great deal to him. Festival director Sandra Lipski says the award honours creative professionals with a distinctive body of work and outlook.

Clothes for a different future

Aulí designed the costumes for The End of It, directed by María Martínez Bayona. The film takes place in a future where death is optional. Aulí says discussions about climate change, scarce resources and a return to craft shaped the clothes: the team chose durable garments and drew on the past rather than familiar science-fiction looks.

The festival also presented Pretty Babies, the first feature by director and writer Tyler-Marie Evans, on Tuesday. It is due to screen at 20.30 in screen 1 at CineCiutat, followed by a discussion.
