Mallorca Photofest closes at 20.00 on Saturday, 29 August, at the Museum of Mallorca in Palma. The finale brings down the curtain on the biennial festival’s first four-month run, which put contemporary photography into 36 cultural venues across Palma and the rest of the island. The Consell de Mallorca is staging the closing event.

Launched on 25 April, the programme paired exhibitions with workshops and talks. It was started by Art Palma Contemporani, with the Consell highlighting the public-private partnership behind it.

At La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre in Palma, two of the festival’s main exhibitions ran until 22 August: Bandia Ribeira’s Grandeza y bajeza de lo espontáneo, winner of the 2025 Premio Mallorca de Fotografía Contemporánea, and Beatriz Polo Iañez’s Cuando se acabe el día, which received the 2025 Premio Mallorca de Fotografía Talent Illenc.

The Museum of Mallorca has also hosted Negatius de sol. A dos siglos del nacimiento de la fotografía, a look at the beginnings of photography. Curated by Martí Llorens of Factoría Heliográfica and Fundación Casa Planas, it remains open until 30 August.

Culture and Heritage vice-president Antònia Roca said the first edition had received a very positive response. She said the aim is for Mallorca Photofest to become a regular fixture in the island’s cultural calendar.
