Mallorca puts Ramon Llull’s 49 congress papers in print

More than 1,000 pages on Mallorca scholar Ramon Llull are now gathered in a new book unveiled in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday 3 September. It brings together 49 papers from the International Ramon Llull Congress, held on Mallorca in November 2025. Jaume Bauzá, the Balearic Islands’ minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, attended the launch at Palma Public Library Can Sales with Pere Joan Planas, director of the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency.

A record of the congress

The volume is titled Espacios de Ramon Llull: Contexto, pensamiento y proyección. Doctor Rafel Ramis coordinated and edited it, as well as outlining the congress and the value of the publication at the presentation.

Ramis is a philosophy graduate and heads the Institute for Hispanic Studies in Modernity at the University of the Balearic Islands. The papers explore Llull’s writing, symbolism, cultural setting, mission and theology.

The Balearic Government said the book gives the speakers’ work the fuller academic treatment that a congress presentation cannot provide, while preserving the event’s legacy.

Tourism-tax funding and cultural events

The 2025 congress was funded through the sustainable tourism tax, known as ITS. An appendix also looks back at Llull-themed cultural activities organised by the Directorate General for Culture, including concerts and sculpture works held from September to November 2025.

Bauzá said the congress and its book showed that Llull’s legacy remained alive, ‘not as a fixed monument but as a tool for thought’. He added that Llull was ‘not only a medieval author’ but ‘an author with a future’.
