Magaluf green route to sea enters Europan bid
A green public route could link inland Magaluf to the sea if Punta de Torrenova is accepted for Europan 19. The Balearic Government and Calvià Council have put the site in Magaluf, Mallorca, forward for the international architecture competition for European architects aged up to 40. On Monday, the Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility said the bid also covers the former Hotel Teix site, which the council demolished a few months ago.
From the former hotel to the shore
Torrenova sits within Magaluf’s built-up area. The land, once hard to reach and run-down, has recently become public property, giving planners the chance to create a green public corridor.
The proposed route would run from the interior towards the coast and cut through the barrier created by existing overdevelopment. At the sea, it would lead to three abandoned historic structures preserved in the natural setting: Torre de Sa Porrassa and two houses by Josep Ferragut, a pioneer of Mallorca’s Modern Movement.
Decision due in November
The proposal will first be assessed in Berlin at the start of October. A final decision on whether Torrenova–Magaluf joins the next Europan competition will follow at a meeting in Barcelona in November.
The competition is due to run from March to July 2027, with the jury’s decision expected in October 2027. The winning architects would then draw up the final project.
