Climate in Mancor de la Vall — in the Tramuntana's mountain basin
Mancor de la Vall sits at 209 meters in one of the smaller side valleys of the Serra de Tramuntana, enclosed by mountain slopes rising on several sides. The village name — Mancor from the Latin mansus (farmstead) and Vall (valley) — points to this sheltered position. That means, above all, more rain in autumn and winter. The Tramuntana acts as a barrier to moist Mediterranean winds, and the valley shape can amplify this orographic effect locally.
